Formal Event Dress Styling Tips
It’s the time of year that calls for a Formal Event Dress. Some of us ladies feel totally overwhelmed at the thought of having to go to a formal event, especially if you’re ‘plain Jane’. Here are some style ideas and tips that will help you feel well dressed and comfortable at the same time.
First rule of thumb when selecting your Formal Event Dress is reading the invitation correctly. For example, if it says cocktails then generally it refers to a short dress. If it says black tie then a long evening dress is required. If it says dress formal, then it can be a short or long evening dress.
Choose your Formal Event Dress in a classic colour such a Red or Black or White, or keep it neutral such as Nude, Champagne or Taupe.
Choose a simple style like a mermaid, fit and flare or the always flattering sweetheart style. Ditch fancy shoulders, cutouts and fussy bodices when shopping for your formal event dress.
Avoid any major ‘bling’ or glitter. Stick to the golden style rule ‘less is more’ especially if it is a corporate event. Instead of sparkly detail on the dress incorporate the sparkle factor in a classic hairstyle and statement jewelry such as gorgeous long curls, a look messy bun. A fancy choker, a drop necklace or some beautiful chandelier earrings.
Lastly remember to wear make up that stands out a little bit. You can still stick to more natural colours but if your dress is simple make the nude colours pop more than usual to avoid looking washed out. A natural bronze look works well on all skin tones.
At the end of the day less can be more and often statement pieces are the most simple. Don’t be afraid to be yourself after all fitting is isn’t fun when you uncomfortable.
